THE DIRECTOR OF SOCIAL WELFARE

The Director is the National Head of the Department of Social Welfare. The Director provides technical and administrative leadership for the effective discharge of the mandate, functions and objectives of the Department. The Director is assisted by four (4) Deputy Directors, who are Divisional Heads for Justice Administration, Child and Family Welfare, Programs Development and Research, Standards, Monitoring and Evaluation. The Divisional Heads are responsible for the supervision of Agencies under the Department.

 DEPUTY DIRECTORS

The Deputy Directors are Divisional Heads for Justice Administration, Child and Family Welfare, Programs Development and Research, Standards, Monitoring and Evaluation. The report directly to the National Director of Social Welfare.

The Deputy Director in-charge of Child and Family Welfare is the supervisory division, responsible for overseeing the activities of the Osu Children’s Home.

THE HOME MANAGERESS

The Home Manageress is the overall supervisor of the Home and therefore, responsible for the smooth running of the facility. The Manageress therefore reports directly to the Deputy Director in-charge of Child and Family Welfare. She is the Head of the Management team in the Home, comprising of the Assistant Manager, Heads of Accounts and Stores, the Compound Overseer and a representative of the Caregivers (house mothers and a father) that meets on monthly bases to discuss and take decisions on issues pertaining to the running of the Home.

THE ASSISTANT MANAGER

The Assistant Manager is the deputy to the Manageress. He is responsible for the day to day supervision of activities at the Home, as sanctioned by the Manageress. He acts as the supervisor of the Home in the absence of the Manageress.

THE ACCOUNTS OFFICERS

The Home has two (2) Accounts Officers, a Senior Accountant and an Accounts Clerk who are responsible for managing the finances of the Home. This entails, receiving of cash donations and managing of the Home’s two (2) accounts with the Bank of Ghana and EcoBank, respectively. They are also responsible for making funds available for running of the Home as would be sanctioned by the spending officer (the Manageress).

THE STORE KEEPERS

There are two (2) store keepers who are responsible receiving of material donations and for making supplies readily available for use in the running of the facility. Ideally, the Home requires a separate office for procurement officers and stores but, due to staff constraint the one (1) of the two (2) store keepers receives the donation whiles the other does the validation.

THE NURSING OFFICERS

There are two (2) Nurses from the La Polyclinic who are stationed at the Home during the day to provide general clinical services for the children. They are responsible for assessing the children’s health and nutritional situations and recommend corrective measures to the Home authorities.

ADMIN – HR

The HR is responsible for the execution of all administrative tasks, in consultation with the Assistant Home Manager. The HR therefore, reports directly to the Assistant Manager on all administrative issues concerning the Home.

THE CASE WORKERS

Case Workers are the social workers responsible for the welfare and psychosocial needs of the children. They manage individual cases to work out care and exit plans for each child admitted to the Home.

UNIT HEADS

HOUSE MOTHERS

The House Mothers (unit heads) are senior caregivers with years of experience who are in-charge of the various home units to supervise the day to day activities of the caregivers who together provide the primary core mandate of caring for the children. The caregivers are therefore responsible for providing direct care through toileting, bathing and dressing, cleaning, cooking, feeding, washing of the children’s cloths, etc. They are also required to assist the children with their homework and other school related assignments.

ALKOT UNIT

This is a Childhood Development Centre under the leadership of the Home and it is made up of Pre-school to KG 2. The Head of the unit reports directly to the Home Manageress.

THE TRANSPORT UNIT/DRIVERS

The drivers are responsible for commuting the children to and from school, the hospital, etc and other administrative errands as certified by authorities of the Home.

THE TECHNICAL INSTRUCTORS

These are staff with specialized skills who provide such professional services through teaching, training or in practice. They are made up of teachers, dress makers, caterers, administrative assistants, house father and a compound overseer. They are therefore distributed into the various units including Admin, where their expertise are needed.

THE SECURITY

The security officers, both a day and a night guards are responsible for access control at the gate. They are as well obligated to protect live and property at the Home. The report directly to the Compound Overseer on any issue pertaining to the security of the facility.

THE LAUNDRESS

The laundress are staff who are responsible for washing the clothing and dresses of the babies and toddlers. They report to the unit head of their assigned home unit.

THE CASUAL WORKERS

These are temporal supporting staff who were employed by the Home and paid with internally generated funds to assist the work of caregivers, labourers, cleaners and teachers. The report directly to the Compound Overseer on any issue pertaining to the security of the facility.
